The College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT),  University of Dar es Salaam,  in cooperation with the Department of Communication and Networking (COMNET), School of Electrical Engineering, Aalto University, Finland is offering an intensive  course in Advanced Wireless Communications. This course targets individuals who are involved in wireless communications industry particularly in technical roles who have background knowlege in 3G.

Objectives

By participating in this course, it will bring you to the leading edge of wireless technologies by learning the latest developments, applications, and trends in mobile wireless communications. The course will also address the challenges and impacts of wireless transmission and user mobility on the design and management of wireless mobile systems. The following topics will be covered:

·         3G and 4G small cells

·         MIMO (3G and 4G)

·         Technical challenges for LTE in Africa

·         Self-organizing networks.

·         HSPA evolution

·         Cooperative communications

·         Wi-Fi offloading ( or Wi-Fi and 3GPP convergence)

·     Machine-type communications/ machine-to-machine communications

The course will be taught by a world class Prof Jyri  Hämäläinen  of Aalto University inFinland Prof Jyri received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Oulu, Finland, in 1992 and 1998, respectively. From 1999 to the end of 2007, he was with Nokia, where he worked on various aspects of mobile communications systems. Since 2008, he has been a Professor in the Department of Communications and Networking, Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering, Finland. He is an author or a coauthor of more than 140 scientific publications and he is holder of 35 U.S. patents or patent applications. His research interests include multi-antenna transmission and reception techniques, radio resource scheduling, relays, small cells, and the design and analysis of wireless networks in general.

Pricing Structure

The price for the 7 days training is US $625 or Tsh 1,000,000/=. This registration fee will cover learning materials and refreshments (breakfast and lunch).

Course Prerequisite and Requirements (Before the course)

  • Understanding on basic principles of wireless communications; basics of access methodologies like CDMA, OFDMA; signal path loss and fading models 
  • Each participant should bring their own laptop with MS Excel for use in link budget calculations.

Certification

Exercises and group work will be graded and certificate will be issued by the College of Information and Communication Technologies to participants upon attaining the minimum pass mark of 60%.
