Josephine K. Stephen is an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (ETE), College of Information and Communications Technologies (CoICT), University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). She has been working at UDSM since 2010, as a tutorial assistant, an assistant lecturer, and is currently pursuing her PhD studies in Communications and Network Engineering at UDSM, to become a lecturer. Her PhD research focus is on the applications of Multi-Frame Super-Resolution (MFSR) in multimodal medical image fusion, contributing to advancing the medical imaging field. With a strong background in engineering and research, Ms. Stephen has a broad interest in the fields of signal and image processing, biomedical radar applications, and wireless communication networks.
Beyond teaching and research, Ms. Stephen is passionate about mentorship, coaching, and outreach programs in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Serving as a coach for the undergraduate incubation program at CoICT (UDICTI Academy), she guides students in turning their innovative projects into startups. She is a founding member of SmartGirls in ICT Tanzania, a program aiming to build capacity in ICT skills for secondary school girls and encourage them to pursue careers in ICT. She is also a frequent judge for Code Like a Girl, a program aiming to build a more digital inclusion for underprivileged girls.
Ms. Stephen is a registered professional engineer with the Tanzania Engineers Registration Board (ERB), actively engaging her in both academic and industry-related projects. She is also a member of the Institute of Engineers Tanzania (IET), strongly vested in the women chapter, and a judge in the TAWECE exhibitions organized annually by IET.
With a commitment to education, research, and empowerment, Ms. Stephen continues to make significant contributions to academia, industry, and the broader technology community.
