Program Description

Philosophy

This programme emphasizes the use of innovative teaching methods and technologies to integrate technical knowledge of telecommunications with management and innovative thinking to lead and manage the telecommunication industry and innovations in Tanzania and globally. It provides the current trends and demands in telecommunication management and innovations.

Objectives

This programme aims to produce Telecommunications Management and Innovation specialists who are adept in navigating through the multifaceted telecommunications industry. The program aims to produce professionals who can adeptly analyze, design, manage, and innovate within telecommunications systems, ensuring they meet the evolving needs in the communication engineering field, both within Tanzania and on a global scale. The curriculum for the Telecommunications Management and Innovation program has been developed to achieve the following specific objectives:

  1. Furnish students with both theoretical and applied knowledge essential for practising as proficient telecommunications professionals;
  2. Empower students with the technological expertise and competitive skills requisite for designing and engineering contemporary communications systems and networks;
  3. Ensure students possess the capability to integrate telecommunications technologies and engineering systems, utilizing their comprehensive and multidisciplinary knowledge in varied contexts;
  4. Ascertain students acquire the ability to innovate, develop, direct, and technically manage projects in the realms of communications and networks; and
  5. Prepare graduates to contribute significantly to research, innovation, and technological advancements through independent and collaborative.

Qualification

General Minimum Entry Requirements for Admission 

UDSM is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment of mutual respect. University welcomes women and men, including those with disabilities, with the following minimum qualifications:

  1. UQF level 8 with a background in telecommunication courses in undergraduate studies, at least a second-class degree, and a minimum GPA of 2.7/5.0 from a respected institution recognized by TCUor NACTVET; Or
  2. A postgraduate diploma in a relevant field (same or similar discipline) from a reputable institution recognized by TCU or NACTVET with at least an upper second-class B+ award and a minimum GPA of 3.5/5.0. Candidates with equivalent qualifications Or as the entry requirement may be updated by the University of Dar es Salaam and TCU or NACTVET.

Career Prospect

We produce graduates that can harness opportunities in a wide range of telecommunications industries and institutions. Our graduates can, for instance, find opportunities as managers in mobile telephone operators, manufacturers and vendors of telecom equipment. They can, in addition, establish their own successful startups, spinoffs, and companies that provide quality telecom services to the Tanzanian community.

Outcomes

Knowledge

Graduate of MSc Telecommunication Management and Innovation will:

  1. Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the telecommunications industry, including its technological, regulatory, and management aspects;
  2. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of telecommunications technologies, systems, and networks;
  3. Have a thorough understanding of the legal, regulatory, and policy frameworks governing the telecommunications sector; and
  4. Understand the business and economic principles related to telecommunications, including business models, market dynamics, and financial management. 

Skills

Graduates of MSc Telecommunication Management and Innovation will acquire:

  1. Ability to analyze, model, and solve complex problems related to telecommunications systems and business scenarios;
  2. Proficiency in designing, managing, and optimizing telecommunications systems and networks;
  3. Capability to manage projects, resources, and teams effectively in a telecommunications context;
  4. Ability to communicate complex technical and business concepts clearly to varied audiences; and
  5. Competence in conducting research, analyzing data, and deriving insights to inform decision-making and innovation. 

Competency

Graduates of MSc Telecommunication Management and Innovation will demonstrate:

  1. Ability to innovate, develop, and implement new solutions, services, or products in the telecommunications domain;
  2. Competency in developing and implementing strategic plans for telecommunications projects and businesses;
  3. Ethical decision-making and practice in all aspects of telecommunications engineering and management;
  4. Ability to adapt to technological changes and evolving market conditions in the telecommunications sector; and
  5. Demonstrate leadership and collaborative skills in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
