Since its establishment on 27th January 2011, the department has achieved exponential growth in terms of staffing, laboratory facilities, and students’ enrolment. Our graduates have managed to create self-employment opportunities and many have been employed in a wide range of private and public sectors: telecommunications, transportation, energy, and banking, just to mention a few. The positive feedback we receive from the graduates and stakeholders remain a cornerstone for the department to excel and produce impactful results to the society.

 

The department envisages to become a leading centre of excellence in training, research and consultancy in all fields of electronics and telecommunications science and engineering. In achieving this vision, we have been striving to establish a distinctive identity in our major fields of expertise, specifically electronics and telecommunications science and engineering. Subsequently, staff of the department have participated significantly in mega consultancy projects, locally and internationally, aimed at socio-economic transformation. We have forged collaborations and partnerships with reputable organizations to address practical problems at national and international levels. These contributions have elevated our visibility and relevance to the community.

Over the years, we have built a culture of quality service delivery to customers (students and stakeholders). Driven by the University Customer Service Charter, the department puts forward customers in all its processes to achieve excellence and prosperity. The department offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the fields of electronics and telecommunications science and engineering. These programs have captured wide attention of students in Tanzania and across the region. Some aspects that attract students to our programs include high competency of graduates, well-established laboratory facilities, high-profile staff with tracked teaching and research records, and conducive teaching and learning environment. Specifically, the department extends the vision of the university and college (of information and communication technologies) to ensure generation of competitive young graduates that can challenge the status quo and participate in building the country’s economy. Graduates from the department have participated in developing commercial products, and some have established successful private companies. These achievements have been well-received by prospective students, inspiring them to join into our programs.

Our governance structure has been organized in a way to efficiently streamline different processes. Generally, we have six units: research and innovation, undergraduate studies, postgraduate studies, ICT, quality assurance, and social relations. These units are integrated to provide service to both staff and students, and are linked to the advanced organizational structures of the college and university.
