Education and Training

Mr Hubert Msuya earned a Master's degree in Electronics Engineering and Information Technologies from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in 2013 and a Bachelor's degree in Electronics Science and Communications from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in 2008. His MSc research project focused on improving internet laboratories—he integrated a low-cost switching system into the NI ELVIS II+ iLab Shared Architecture platform. He is currently pursuing PhD in Electronics Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Dar es Salaam. His PhD research topic focuses on modal parameter compression strategies for deep learning-based multimodal data fusion. He also took part in a number of career-building workshops, including:

(1) Training on Animations using Action Script 3.0.

Nairobi, Kenya

(2) Training on Software Defined Radio.

Work Experience

Mr Msuya joined the University of Dar es Salaam, in the Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) department as a Tutorial Assistant in 2009. Currently, he is an Assistant Lecturer in the ETE department. His main responsibilities include teaching undergraduate (UG) students, supervising UG students' final year projects, doing academic research, and providing consulting and public services. He also spent five years as a departmental examination officer (2013-2018). Image Processing, e-learning—specifically, building online laboratories (hosting ICT-mediated electrical and electronics experiments), and Deep Neural Networks—with an emphasis on parameter compression algorithms for multimodal data fusion based on deep learning—are among his research interests. He has also been involved in a number of research projects at UDSM, including,

  • The iLab Africa project (2009 – 2013);
  • WB STHEP1-AF for retooling secondary school science and mathematics teachers with the use of ICT in teaching (2014 – 2016);
  • Africa Digital School Initiatives (2017 – 2018), and;
  • Signal Processing Research Group (SPRG) projects.

Some of the undergraduate courses he teaches are Fundamentals of Signals and Systems, Electronic Control, Digital Signal Processing, Digital Electronics Practical, and Practical in Electronics (an introductory course).
